Tamar Park Lawn Cordoned Off Ahead Of Protests

Officials have cordoned off the lawn at Tamar Park for “regular maintenance work”, just as protesters plan to gather in the area to show their opposition to extradition law changes.
"One person picnics" are among the various protests expected on Wednesday as legislators debate the legal amendments, and the park was the expected venue for these picnics.
Although the tape around the perimeter is new, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said the lawn has actually been out of bounds since April 23 and is due to reopen on Sunday.
Meanwhile, security is being stepped up around the legislature following violent clashes there on Sunday night between protesters and the police.
Legco staff have used chains to tie metal barriers outside the building together.
Protesters had rammed barriers into police officers during the weekend's violence which followed a march by a million people opposed to the extradition plans.
