Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office on Tuesday warned Taipei not to go "any further down the wrong path of political manipulation of Hong Kong issues".

Spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian issued the warning in response to the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's "irresponsible remarks" about the subversion charges laid against dozens of Hong Kong pro-democracy figures, Xinhua News Agency reported.

"The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's legitimate and natural move toward holding lawbreakers accountable brooks no interference", the spokesperson was quoted as saying.

"The DPP authority's remarks have once again exposed their true nature of disrupting Hong Kong and seeking 'Taiwan independence', as well as their hypocrisy in using the issues of human rights and freedoms as a guise", Zhu added.

On Monday, the Chinese embassy in Britain warned London that it too was on the wrong path regarding Hong Kong, after British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab described the national security case against the 47 pro-democracy politicians and activists as "deeply disturbing".

The United States, meanwhile, was told by the Foreign Ministry in Beijing to stop its meddling, after Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for the immediate release of those charged.
