Holden Chow speaks to RTHK's Priscilla Ng
Serious traffic congestion caused by accidents on the North Lantau Highway on Friday morning prompted a DAB lawmaker to warn there could be major problems to come when the bridge to Macau and Zhuhai opens.
There were four separate smashes on the road between around 8am and 10am, causing long tailbacks across the Tsing Ma and Kap Shui Mun bridges in the direction of the airport.
Lawmaker Holden Chow said the government needs to take action to ease the "unacceptable" congestion on the road following accidents, after a spate of recent crashes.
"It takes a lot of time to clear the traffic and there is a problem on the North Lantau Highway, especially dealing with the traffic accidents," Chow told RTHK's Priscilla Ng.
"We suggest that the government ought to launch different sorts of mechanisms, including installing different facilities to show electronic signals on different highways, including the Western Harbour Tunnel, for example, just to alert travellers [about accidents] in advance," the lawmaker said.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is expected to open this year, although no date has been announced.
