Students Unions Demand Release Of Baptist Leader

The student councils of all local universities have issued a joint statement, demanding the immediate release of Kieth Fong, following his arrest in Sham Shui Po on Tuesday evening.
The Baptist University student union leader was arrested on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons, after plainclothes police officers said they found 10 laser pointers in his bag.
The statement condemned the police for indiscriminately arresting innocent people and abusing their power.
It also criticised the government for attempting to suppress academic freedom and create a climate of fear.
The statement said that in the face of political intimidation, the students unions will fight to the end, and not retreat.
Baptist University president Professor Roland Chin Tai-hong went to the Caritas Medical Centre to check on Fong, while Leung Yiu-chung of the Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre went to Sham Shui Po police station to see what he could find out
