Student-union-led anti-extradition protesters have spent the night outside the Legislative Council after Thursday's 5 pm deadline passed without the government giving into their demands. The atmosphere has been calm with scattered groups of people reading, singing and walking around.

The protesters want the permanent withdrawal of the now-suspended extradition bill, an inquiry into the policing of the June 12 mass protest in Admiralty, the withdrawal of the description of that protest as a 'riot' and the release without charge of all arrested protesters.

The Chief Executive's Office, though, said Carrie Lam had already apologised and addressed their demands during Tuesday's news conference. It said the Chief Executive would spend more time listening to young people in future.

The government has said the Central Government Offices at Tamar will be closed on Friday, citing security concerns.

Meanwhile, nearby Tim Wa Avenue has reopened to traffic.
