Stripe, the programmable financial services company, has launched Stripe Terminal in Japan, aiming to help businesses integrate both online and offline commerce.
The announcement was made at Stripe Tour Tokyo, the company’s annual event for business leaders in Japan, where Stripe also highlighted a range of new products and features.
These included upgrades that incorporate AI and stablecoins, designed to support businesses as they adapt to new commerce models.
Stripe Terminal will support Tap to Pay on iPhone, alongside integrations with PayPay, Japan’s largest QR code payment service with more than 70 million users, and Weixin Pay, also known as WeChat Pay.
The company has also introduced the Reader S710, which offers merchants cellular connectivity to ensure payment acceptance continues even if wifi connections are disrupted.
Inforich, a mobile battery sharing service operating in around 55,000 locations nationwide, is preparing to roll out Stripe Terminal.

“Stripe is invaluable as we aim for global expansion,”
said Yuki Hashimoto, Chief Executive of Inforich.
“We were attracted to the globally unified development module and the multilingual support. The trust from our developers and Stripe’s positive reputation were decisive factors in our adoption.”
Further updates shared at Stripe Tour Tokyo included new support for Japanese businesses looking to expand into South Korea, with access to local payment methods such as Naver Pay, Samsung Pay and PAYCO, as well as cards from providers including Shinhan, Hyundai and Samsung.
Stripe also announced enhancements to its fraud detection tool, Stripe Radar, including 3D Secure 2, which has raised authorisation rates by 25%.
In addition, the company introduced Stripe Startups, a programme for early-stage, venture-backed businesses offering financial benefits, resources and community access.
Stripe reported that its payment volume in Japan grew by more than 40% in 2024 compared with the previous year, while cross-border payment volume increased by over 62%.
The company also noted greater diversification of business models, with more than 9,000 Japanese firms using Stripe Billing for subscriptions in the past year.
Stripe’s clients in Japan include Toyota, ANA Group and ORIX, while globally the company processes over US$1.4 trillion in payments annually.
