  • Stop the fake news about govt's Covid work: John Lee

Chief Secretary John Lee on Sunday warned that authorities will take action against people who spread rumours about the government's anti-epidemic work.

He was commenting on a photo circulating online which claimed that the ceiling of a toilet had collapsed at a community isolation centre.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting a newly-completed isolation facility in Fanling, Lee said the Security Bureau has already clarified that the claim is untrue, adding that people should stay vigilant and pay heed to official information released by the government.

He condemned those who spread fake news, calling them enemies of the society.

He stressed officials will take law enforcement action once they’ve gathered sufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, the security chief thanked the central government for helping to build isolation facilities in Hong Kong, saying the new camp at Fanling will provide 350 rooms and around 1,000 beds.

He said arrangements have been put in place to better satisfy the needs of people staying in these facilities and called on them to comply with the government’s isolation orders.
