A grassroots organisation on Thursday broke ground on a transitional housing project in Tsuen Wan that is to provide 200 flats for people in need.
The project, operated by the Society for Community Organisation, is located at a 4,700-square-metre site at the intersection of Yau Ma Hom Road and Cheung Wing Road.
The society's deputy director, Sze Lai-shan, said she hopes the flats will accommodate families waiting for a public housing unit.
“Even the government tried hard and said that they provide more [public housing], it’s not easy to find land. It takes time to do that. So I think it’s good to, at the same time, have mid-term or short-term assistance, so we can provide more units for the people,” she said.
The project is expected to be completed in the middle of next year.
