An expert adviser to the government on Covid-19 inoculation, Wallace Lau, said he expects Sinovac to submit the latest clinical data on the efficacy and side effects of its vaccine to the government shortly.

Speaking on a television programme on Sunday, Lau said vaccine manufacturers had a responsibility to provide authorities with the most updated clinical information about their products.

The expert said while there is no evidence to show that either of the coronavirus vaccines currently in use in the SAR – Sinovac or BioNtech – can trigger problems like vascular occlusion or coronary heart diseases, it's important for the government to keep people informed of the data to boost public confidence.

Government advisers are to meet on Wednesday to discuss the death of a man who had recently received the BioNTech jab.

However they said that, as with the case of seven people who died after receiving Sinovac inoculations, there's no evidence so far of a direct link.
