Dozens of people gathered in the Sha Tin New Town Plaza shopping mall on Thursday evening, calling on people to join a strike on Monday in support of the anti-extradition movement.
Two huge banners were unfurled that read "hate deeply, feel bitter" and "withdraw the extradition bill". People also handed out flyers to promote the action, and one man wearing a yellow hardhat was seen kneeling on the floor.
Large numbers of civil servants, financial industry workers and MTR employees, among others, have pledged to take part in the general strike, which is urging the government to set up an inquiry into the causes of recent social unrest.
The mall was the scene of a clashes between protesters and police after an anti-extradition rally in the new town on June 16. Protesters have returned to the mall several times since to demand that developer Sun Hung Kai Properties explain why its staff allowed police in.
