A group of people demonstrated outside the government headquarters in Tamar on Monday to demand help from the People's Liberation Army to suppress what they called "riots" linked to ongoing anti-extradition protests.
They handed over a letter to the government, asking them to seek Beijing's intervention.
The group of about a dozen people waved the national flag and raised patriotic slogans during their demonstration. The group didn't have a name and said they were just a few concerned people who came out spontaneously.
One of the demonstrators, a special school's teacher named Ada Lam, said the Hong Kong police force is absolutely capable of managing social security, but the movement involves foreign interference, which should be handled by Beijing.
She also said the central government can suppress the protest peacefully by using technology they have. Lam said as an ordinary citizen she is not aware of all their capabilities, but singled out facial recognition technology as a tool that can be used.
She recalled that the mainland had arrested some people who came to attend Jacky Cheung’s concert in Hebei province after identifying them as fugitives by using facial recognition technology. Police could find the suspects from among the crowd even when they wore face masks and caps, she said.
Lam also said some of the five demands made by protesters are ridiculous.
"It's impossible to release those who attacked the police, set fire, threw bombs and did many other violent acts. How can police release these people? They are like terrorists. Arresting them is necessary, and the court will do the rest," she said.
