The headmistress of a primary school in Tin Shui Wai has been sacked, five months after one of its teachers committed suicide.

The school board decided to sack the principal, Law Yuen-yee, with immediate effect, after discussing the findings of an independent investigation into the death of the teacher.

In March, 48-year-old Lam Lai-tong fell to her death in the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

Albert So, chief executive of the school's sponsor, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, said there were a number of reasons which led to her death, one of which was the poor governance of the headmistress.

The board also accepted a number of recommendations in the report, such as improving the governance and complaints mechanism, and establishing an emotional support team in the school.

The Education Bureau said it had received notification of the move.
