Vote-counting commenced across Hong Kong on Sunday evening following the Legislative Council elections – including at border checkpoints for the first time.

Thousands of Hong Kong people living on the mainland had cast their ballots at the Heung Yuen Wai, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line boundary control points, which were converted to counting stations following the vote.

RTHK provided live coverage of the vote count – broadcasting the process live on RTHK TV32 while relaying the footage to other local media organisations.

The Director of Broadcasting, Patrick Li, accompanied by his deputy Raymond Sy and other RTHK managers, visited the station’s master control centre on Sunday evening as part of efforts to ensure that the relay was conducted smoothly.

In a statement, RTHK said the officials showed their appreciation for staff from various divisions “for ensuring a smooth relay of the vote counting at the boundary control points, providing Hong Kong citizens a comprehensive picture of the vote counting work for the election with professionalism.”
