Hongkongers heading to work in the Monday morning rush hour faced heavy rain, with the Observatory issuing the Red Rainstorm Warning at shortly after 8am.

The warning indicates that heavy rain is expected to continue, with at least 50 millimetres an hour falling. It gives notice of potential disruption to traffic.

The Transport Department said on Monday morning that traffic accidents were affecting the approach to the Hong Kong-bound side of the Cross Harbour Tunnel, leaving the queue backed up to Argyle Street, and Princess Margaret Road in Mong Kok.

There were no reports of disruption on the MTR network.

The rainstorm warning was downgraded to amber shortly after 9am.
