Mary Mulvihill talks to RTHK's Joanne Wong

A group of conservationists on Tuesday urged the public to support their application to rezone Government Hill and Bishop Hill in Central into a heritage district.

The public consultation on the proposal ends this week.

The Government Hill Concern Group hoped the height restrictions from the rezoning can prevent Sheng Kung Hui, or the Anglican Church, from building a 25-storey private hospital on Bishop Hill.

A spokeswoman of the group, Mary Mulvihill, said that the planned hospital will destroy the integrity of an area filled with monuments and historic buildings.

“It’s neither compatible with the heritage buildings but also the very size of it is not compatible. It completely overshadows all the buildings and overwhelm them,” she told RTHK’s Joanne Wong.

Public's opinion about the group’s proposal to the Town Planning Board is being collected until Friday.
