Activists from the Equal Opportunity Action Coalition staged a protest outside the Equal Opportunities Commission in Wong Chuk Hang on Tuesday, accusing the equality watchdog of trying to sanitise a review about its operations.
The group said the review needs to be carried out by someone with experience of dealing with anti-discrimination and human rights issues.
They also accused EOC chairman Alfred Chan of nepotism for hiring his friend, former health official John Leung, to manage the review.
But Chan, who met the protesters, dismissed the criticism. He said Leung was hired through an open recruitment exercise and he himself had stayed out of the selection process.
He told the group that complaints about the performance of the watchdog's legal team will be covered in the review.
