Protesters and riot police were engaged in a number of standoffs in Yuen Long on Saturday afternoon, after thousands had joined an unauthorised march through the town centre.
Officers were stationed outside Nam Pin Wai village where men dressed in white t-shirts were believed to have fled following vicious attacks on MTR passengers last Sunday night.
Some of the protesters attempted to break down a metal fence next to an entrance to the village, while others chanted slogans against the police.
Close by, some protesters armed themselves with makeshift shields as they faced off against officers by Sai Pin Wai village.
Meanwhile, riot police advanced against a group of protesters on Tai Tong Road and then Castle Peak Road.
There was also a large police presence outside the town's police station where a large number of protesters were also gathered.
