A large number of protesters staged occupied Harcourt Road in Admiralty on Sunday evening, ignoring police orders for them to leave.
They sat in the road near Admiralty Centre with many police officers looking on.
The police repeatedly warned the group that they were breaking the law and were posing a serious threat to safety.
The road formed part of the approved march route.
Earlier in the evening, officers had fired pepper spray when protesters wearing masks attempted to get onto the road.
The force said it was aware that calls had been made online for people to occupy roads in the Admiralty area.
By around 1am on Monday morning, most of the protesters had left the area, although there was still a massive police presence.
