Gladys Lam talks to RTHK's Iris Yeung

About 20 protesters from the Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre rallied outside government headquarters on Thursday to mark International Women's Day.

They called on the government to increase funding for childcare services and adopt more family-friendly policies to encourage more women to work.

Gladys Lam, the community organiser of the group, says the Community Care Fund (CCF) should also hand out allowances for grassroots housewives who need to take care of their children.

She said while people who care for the elderly or disabled can benefit from the fund's initiatives, those who have to care for children don't get any benefits from the CCF.

Many women from low-income families tend to quit their jobs to take care of their children as there is no support available, she said. After a few years, they will find it difficult to get back into the job market, Lam said.
