  • Protesters fill airport on third day of sit-in

More than a thousand people, mostly dressed in black, on Monday afternoon gathered at the airport in Chek Lap Kok for the third day of a sit-in, which aims to raise international awareness of the city's ongoing political unrest.

Some of them were covering their eyes with blinds to protest against the shooting of a female protester allegedly by the police using bean bag rounds on Sunday night.

Protesters were chanting slogans like "An eye for an eye" and "Black cops, shame on you".

One protester, Shirley Chan, says she's angry about police handling of protesters, including the use of tear gas inside Kwai Fong MTR station.

“The police use extraordinary evil force on the protesters and even the citizens. We are citizens of Hong Kong. We are born in Hong Kong. We do not deserve such evil force,” she told RTHK’s Olivia Tam.

A traveller from Brazil, Larissa Pithon, says police should not blame protesters for the violence.

“We can see here some people just sitting in the airport and asking for justice. And the police here are trying to put on the news something totally different – that they are shooting people and making some kind of violence that is not happening,” she said.

“So, I think it’s really necessary because the foreigners are coming out [here, and] came with an idea that something happened that is not true. So when we come here, and we see that and they are just giving (leftlets) to us, we can see that it’s nothing what they try to make,” she said.
