Protesters who attended the only authorised anti-extradition rally of the day at Victoria Park on Sunday branched out to disrupt traffic from Causeway Bay to Hung Hom immediately afterwards, despite a police ban on any demonstrations outside of the park.

Police started firing tear gas at protesters on Hennessy Road at around 6.45pm. Several small fires were seen burning near the police cordon.

An RTHK journalist reported that the smell of tear gas was thick even inside the Wan Chai MTR station, with some children crying.

Black-clad demonstrators had set up makeshift barricades on key roads in the area, completely blocking traffic outside the Sogo Department Store at around 4.30pm.

Some went on to Bauhinia Square in Wanchai, spraying graffiti and stick posters on the base of the statue.

A separate group even went across the harbour, emerging at the Kowloon entrance of the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, blocking traffic there briefly.

Meanwhile protesters are continuing a sit-in protest at the airport. In the arrival hall, a so-called Lennon Wall has been set up to let people to express their feelings by posting notes.

Some protesters also wrote their demands on placards in different languages to explain their actions to foreign visitors. The three-day sit-in protest started on Friday.
