Anti-government demonstrators blocked the Cross-Harbour Tunnel again on Sunday evening – this time on the Hong Kong Island side.

A large group suddenly spilled onto the roads just outside the tunnel just before 9pm to set up makeshift barricades and completely paralyze traffic on all lanes – both Kowloon-and Hong Kong-bound.

Protesters parted to allow some vehicles pass – including an ambulance flashing its lights.

Some drivers and bus passengers showed their support to the demonstrators by flashing the thumbs-up sign.

A group of riot police arrived at around 9.15pm, chasing off many of the protesters. Some of the officers were seen brandishing long guns and pointing it at the protesters' backs. Kowloon-bound traffic resumed shortly afterwards.

Protesters had twice blocked traffic at the Kowloon end of the tunnel for brief periods on Saturday, before quickly moving off before police could arrive.
