  • Property office worker only untraceable case

Health officials said on Wednesday that a man who tested negative during an ambush lockdown two weeks ago is now confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.

He is the only local case reported on Wednesday, and the source of his infection remains unknown.

Officials said a site visit will be carried out at the residential building in Sai Ying Pun where he lived.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said the patient in question – a 25-year-old male – did clerical work for a property management company on Portland Street.

His duties involved inspecting buildings under the company's management, and his last day at work was March 29 when he reported a runny nose.

Chuang confirmed that around 10 of his colleagues will be placed under quarantine, and the buildings he visited for work will be subject to compulsory testing notices.

She also confirmed that the patient lived in Kwan Yick Building in Sai Ying Pun, which was subjected to an ambush-style lockdown on March 17, just under two weeks ago.

Chuang said that the patient in question tested negative at the time of the lockdown, and said he might have been infected during or after the ambush lockdown.

There are about 10 preliminary positive cases, of which two are untraceable – a 23-year-old ceiling renovation worker, and a 56-year-old waitress who serves tea at a restaurant on Fenwick Street in Wan Chai.

Chuang confirmed that around 30 of the waitress' colleagues will be quarantined, and the restaurant will be temporarily closed.

Health officials will contact anyone who had visited the restaurant since March 18 and tell them to get tested.

There are five imported cases. They arrived in Hong Kong from the Philippines, the United States and Turkey.
