Authorities on Thursday imposed an overnight lockdown on Golden Glory Court at Golden Lion Garden, Sha Tin, after a resident there tested preliminary positive for Covid-19.
The Centre for Health Protection said the case involved a 48-year-old man who works as a cargo handler at the airport, whose sample came back positive for the L452R mutant strain on Wednesday.
Authorities said the man, who has received both doses of the Sinovac vaccine, has no recent travel history and is asymptomatic.
It is so far unknown where he might have caught the virus.
While residents at his residential block will be subject to mandatory testing overnight, the patient's workplace as well as the venues he visited during the incubation period will also be included in a compulsory testing notice.
If the case is confirmed by officials to be locally-acquired, it would snap an over 50-day streak of having no local infections.
