Police on Tuesday combed through a landfill site in Ta Kwu Ling in search of the missing remains of murdered fashion influencer Abby Choi.
Donning protective gear, more than 100 officers dug through piles of trash at a football field-sized search area, with the help of excavators and drones.
"We believe the suspects on the morning of [February 22] had thrown away a few bags of important evidence, which could possibly be human remains, the victim's clothing, phones, and even the murder weapon," said superintendent Alan Chung of the Kowloon West regional crime unit, who noted that the search operation could last for another day or two.
Officers found some bones during the search, Chung added, but it is so far unclear whether they are human remains.
Choi's head and ribs were found inside a cooking pot on Sunday, two days after police discovered her limbs in a fridge at a house in Lung Mei Village in Tai Po.
But some other body parts, including Choi's torso and hands, remain missing.
Meanwhile, Choi’s family members gathered at Lung Mei Village on Tuesday afternoon to mourn their loved one.
Dressed in black, they burned incense sticks and paid their respects to the 28-year-old socialite.
Choi's ex-husband and three of her former in-laws have been remanded in custody in connection with the case; while a fifth suspect – a 47-year-old woman – has been released on bail following her arrest on Sunday.
