Pro-democracy lawmaker Leung Yiu-chung on Thursday accused police of abusing their power after a confrontation with some officers who were patrolling the Tamar area.
Leung accused the officers of pushing him, while the police officers said he had pushed them.
Leung along with three other lawmakers were trying to get to Tamar Park to check on the protesters and how police were enforcing security there.
A senior officer said later that it was all a misunderstanding. But Leung said most of the officers refused to show their police ID when asked.
And officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau were heckled by a crowd of onlookers after they surrounded three people who said they had come to clear rubbish from the park.
Police in riot gear blocked both sides of the pavement and carried out a search of the trio. But they found nothing suspicious and let them leave.
