  • Police launch manhunt following Kwai Fong murder

Police were hunting Wednesday for a male suspect wanted over the alleged murder of a 63-year-old woman at her Kwai Fong flat in an apparent attempted burglary.

Police said the woman was found by her boyfriend with multiple head injuries at their flat in Block 3 of Kwai Fong Terrace, around 7:30pm on Tuesday.

The boyfriend was said to have lost contact with her after they ate lunch together, finding her body when he returned home in the evening.

Superintendent Chen Chi-cheong of the New Territories South regional crime unit said officers believe the victim walked in on the suspect, who had broken into the flat.

He said the suspect had struck the woman repeatedly in the head with a crowbar before fleeing the scene.

"We found a crowbar that didn't belong to the flat, and it was stained with blood. There were also obvious signs of the flat being ransacked," Chen said.

He added that there were also signs of an unsuccessful attempt to pry open a safe, and some of the victim's personal belongings were missing.

Police said they believe the male suspect knew the victim.
