Police have found a woman with knife wounds dead on a footpath in Yuen Long, in a case that has been classified as a murder.

The force received a report at around 7:26pm on Saturday night that a 54-year-old woman was lying unconscious on Kam Pok Road East.

When officers arrived, they found the woman had cut wounds on her neck and back, along with multiple injuries on the rest of her body. She was declared dead at the scene.

The force also seized an electric saw, a 30-centimetre knife and a pair of gloves at the scene. Officers say they suspected the items to be related to the case, adding an autopsy will be arranged to determine the cause of the woman's death.

The Yuen Long District Crime Squad is investigating.
