Police officers raised a black flag warning that they could fire tear gas at protesters outside Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station on Saturday night, while officers streamed out of Mong Kok Police Station to force a crowd there to retreat.

Bricks and eggs were being pelted at the Tsim Sha Tsui station on Nathan Road and some people were leaning through the gates to smash the windows of cars parked inside the grounds with metal rods.

Around a dozen officers, some holding shields, were seen outside the building, but not close to the protesters.

Meanwhile, there were chaotic scenes outside Mong Kok Police Station, although the drama didn't last long.

Police officers, dressed in full riot gear, rushed out of the station at around 8.15pm and tried to disperse the dozens of protesters, forcing some of them to run into nearby Prince Edward MTR Station.

But as soon as the protesters had retreated to Nathan Road, the officers went back inside the police station.

The officers in Tsim Sha Tsui also appeared to have gone back inside their station. A small fire was later burning on the steps outside the gates, with firefighters called to put it out.

Hundreds of protesters had earlier returned to Nathan Road following a blockade of the Cross Harbour Tunnel.

They set up barricades across two sections of Middle Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as on Austin Road near the police station.

Many protesters appeared to be resting after hours of walking which began with a rally at the Anchor Street Playground in Mong Kok.

While thousands followed the approved route to Tai Kok Tsui, many others took over Nathan Road instead, marching right down to Tsim Sha Tsui, and some of them to the tunnel in Hung Hom which they blocked for around half an hour.

Some of those at the tunnel warned that the action was too dangerous and the crowd was persuaded to pull out.

The police issued a statement warning that the blockade had paralysed traffic and affected the work of the emergency services.

A crowd of protesters were also still blocking Nathan Road at the junction of Argyle Street in Mong Kok.
