A support group which rallied outside the police's headquarters in Wan Chai on Friday has defended police action in Yuen Long, saying officers did what they could during a mob attack on July 21.
Colin Chan, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Honour Alliance Association, said police have carried out their duties according to their code of practice.
Chan said ordinary people don't know much about police strategy and the code of practice, and said he believes police did everything within their power on the night when a gang of men rampaged through Yuen Long MTR Station, attacking passengers.
Around a dozen people from the group demonstrated outside the police headquarters to show their support for the force.
They also handed over a thank you letter and a fruit basket, saying police have been working hard in dealing with radical anti-extradition protests.
The police admit that it took them almost 40 minutes to respond to the violence on July 21, by which time the attackers had already fled the station, leaving scores of people needing hospital treatment.
