Police on Sunday arrested two men, aged 24 and 33, and seized methamphetamine worth more than HK$5.5 million that was disguised as liquid ice packs used to keep live seafood chilled.
Police made the arrests in To Kwa Wan as the two men attempted to transport five styrofoam boxes that were filled with live seafood from a van to a subdivided flat in Anhui Street.
Officers said the drug – also known as ice – was in liquid form and divided into 12 plastic half-litre water bottles, and packed together with live seafood, under the guise of being used for cold storage.
The force said it was rare to see drugs trafficked in such a way.
Police said the haul could produce four kilogrammes of solid methamphetamine. Another 370 grams of cocaine, 1.2 kilogrammes of heroin and drug-packaging tool were found inside the flat.
The force believes the drugs originated from Malaysia.
