Police have confirmed that officers from their national security department arrested six people on Wednesday morning, though they did not confirm reports that the former vice-president of the disbanded Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), Leo Tang, is among the arrestees.

The force said in a statement that the four men and two women, aged between 32 and 67, were arrested on suspicion of conducting acts with seditious intention contravening the Crimes Ordinance.

The statement went on to say the six are suspected of "having purposely caused nuisance" while attending hearings at various courts between December last year to January, adding that these acts "severely affected jurisdictional dignity and court operations".

The suspects have been held for further questioning, and officers carried out searches at their homes and seized a number of items in suspected connection with the case.

Police did not name the suspects, but a former CTU member said in a social media post that police had gone to Leo Tang's home early on Wednesday morning and accused him of inciting others to disrupt court operations at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court on January 4.
