The head of the People's Liberation Army's Hong Kong garrison, Tan Benhong, said on Monday that they plan to put more effort into teaching young people about the importance of the military in the SAR.

After a meeting at Beijing's liaison office, the Lieutenant General said the PLA have been seeing an increasing amount of support from the city's residents.

Liaison office director Wang Zhimin said the troops in Hong Kong have played a crucial role in safeguarding the country's sovereignty as well as the territory's stability.

Wang said he would like to see the PLA do more to promote patriotism among the Hong Kong people.
