Chief Executive Carrie Lam says she doesn’t think a court ruling on Wednesday over the 2014 Occupy protests will undermine people’s freedom of expression and of taking part in demonstrations.
Speaking before the sentencing of key Occupy Movement leaders, Lam said she would not be commenting on Wednesday's court decisions.
Before heading to Beijing, she also added that it is not for her to say whether more people will be charged over the Occupy movement, because it is up to the Department of Justice to decide after a police investigation.
The CE said the government would continue to listen to the views expressed by protesters, and would ask the police to accommodate any demonstrations so they can be conducted in an orderly manner.
