The Communist Party’s flagship newspaper, the People’s Daily, has published an article which bashed the Civil Human Rights Fronts for asking “external forces to help tread on One Country, Two Systems”.
An article published on Monday, attributed to Su Xiaohui from the China Institute of International Studies, said the pro-democracy group had “again exposed its pro-independence nature” when it called on foreign governments to issue travel alerts against the SAR.
It said the front had organised anti-extradition protests which were “extremely violent” and had seriously undermined Hong Kong’s rule of law.
The article went on to suggest the front’s latest plea for countries to issue travel alerts is the latest bid to encourage “foreign affairs” to interfere in Hong Kong’s affairs, adding if the tourism industry takes a toll as a result, Hong Kong people will be paying the bill.
