The Secretary for the Civil Service, Patrick Nip, was on Thursday ordered by health authorities to undergo a two-week home quarantine after his wife contracted Covid-19.

A spokesman from his bureau said both the minister's rapid and deep throat saliva tests conducted in the morning came back negative.

His other family members also tested negative in rapid tests, the spokesman added, while Nip's wife was at home pending admission to a hospital or isolation facilities.

The spokesman said the minister will work from home during the quarantine period.

Separately, the Environment Bureau said its permanent secretary, Janice Tse, will also be working at home after her driver tested preliminary positive for the virus.

Tse's rapid Covid test was negative and she's waiting for the test result on her deep throat saliva sample.

The government said the relevant offices will be disinfected and staff concerned had been asked to undergo tests.
