An alliance of parents' groups has called on the Chief Executive Carrie Lam to scrap a planned assessment test for primary-three pupils, saying she has not kept her election promise.

Lam promised during her election campaign last year that she would suspend the Basic Competency Assessments (BCA) till a thorough review is done. Recent reports suggest that the government will soon announce the results of its review, and will give the go-ahead for the tests to continue after making some changes.

But the alliance insists the review isn't as thorough as what Lam had promised.

It also wants the test scrapped altogether, saying even the amended tests can put too much stress on students.

The spokeswoman of the alliance, Annie Cheung, said teaching at primary schools is mainly aimed at preparing students for tests. "Primary education can not be only teaching for assessment," she said.
