Haven of Hope Hospital on Saturday said it had restored oxygen supplies to its wards after an oxygen gas pipe was damaged during rennovation work, forcing the relocation of some patients.

The hospital in Tseung Kwan O said in a statement that it arranged emergency repairs and mobilised backup oxygen cylinders after the accident on the ground floor at about 11am.

As a precaution, it said four patients who required high-concentration oxygen had been moved to other wards. The hospital said the condition of other patients had not been affected.

Supplies were restored later in the day.

The hospital said it immediately suspended the renovation work and asked the contractor to investigate.

"The hospital takes this incident very seriously and has reported it to the Hospital Authority Head Office through the Advance Incident Reporting System," the statement added.

The incident comes at a time when the state of the SAR's public hospitals is in the spotlight.

The authority announced this week that it would conduct checks at all public hospitals over the next month, and form a committee to review the maintenance of medical equipment and facilities, after a series of incidents involving falling objects.
