Scuffles broke out in Legco on Wednesday after pro-democracy lawmakers surrounded Security Secretary John Lee, asking the official to withdraw the controversial fugitive law amendments.
The incident occurred after Lee was leaving a meeting room where a special security panel wrapped up its 20-hour debate over the changes proposed by the government.
The minister was surrounded by pro-democracy lawmakers and reporters. The opposition lawmakers Claudia Mo, Chu Hoi-dick, Lam Cheuk-ting, Jeremy Tam, Ted Hui and Gary Fan demanded that the official withdraw the bill and resign over the matter.
Amid the shouting and pushing, security officers formed a protective circle around Lee and escorted him away.
Fan, who hurt his hand during the scuffles, said they wanted to get answers from the minister, because the panel discussion over the past five days did not address their concerns.
The lawmaker also downplayed his injury, saying the damage the extradition bill is causing to Hong Kong is much more grave.
