Online bookings for coronavirus jabs made by German drugmaker BioNTech opened at 9am on Wednesday, but with some delays.
RTHK logged onto the appointment system at 9am and was informed of a 45-minute wait to book a slot between next Wednesday and March 30.
In the end it took only 30 minutes to gain access to the actual appointment web page, which allows users to choose to get the BioNTech jab, or the one made by mainland company Sinovac.
Seven centres – in Sai Ying Pun, Sai Wan Ho, Kowloon Tong, Kwun Tong, Lai Chi Kok, Sheung Shui and Yuen Long will be providing the BioNTech jabs – which have to be stored in ultra-cold facilities.
The vaccination centre in Kowloon Tong seemed to be the busiest, and was soon fully booked for the first two weeks, with most of the slots at the other centres snapped up for the first few days.
The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Alfred Sit, earlier appealed for patience, saying there will be enough jabs for everyone in Hong Kong.
Currently, bookings are only available for those in "priority groups" – people aged 60 and above, healthcare staff, care home workers and residents, those deemed to provide essential public services, and cross-border transport workers and control point staff.
