One of the four family members who were shot by a woman at the Quarry Bay Park near Taikoo Shing on Tuesday afternoon has died in hospital.
The dead woman, who was aged 80, had been shot in the head. She and her three siblings - two men and a woman - aged between 60 and 72, were also shot and received injuries to the head and arms. The two men are in critical condition and the woman is stable.
The woman who fired the shots is believed to be their niece and police said the shooting took place because of a "family conflict."
Detective chief inspector Hui Hong-kit said the suspect did not resist when she was arrested in the nearby Cityplaza Four complex.
The victims were all taken to hospital. Hui told a press briefing that "officers of the counter-terrorism response unit arrested a 44-year-old lady. We believe the lady to be the assailant and we recovered a firearm from her possession."
Heavily armed officers swarmed into the park after the incident occurred. The park is close to office towers, a popular shopping mall and a major residential development.
