A knife-wielding man who attacked a supermarket manager in Yau Ma Tei has been shot and killed by a police officer.
The police say the man was seen running into the supermarket, at the junction of Reclamation Street and Pak Hoi Street, and stabbing at the manager’s head.
Superintendent Tsang Chung-bun said the man had been seen arguing with shop staff a few minutes before the attack.
He said the man ignored two verbal warnings to stop, before an officer fired his gun at the man’s torso.
The man later died at Kwong Wah Hospital after being sent there for treatment.
The supermarket manager suffered wounds to the back of his head, and was also taken to Kwong Wah Hospital.
Tsang said they are searching for a motive for the attack, and are looking into the pair’s backgrounds. The police would also investigate whether the officer’s decision to fire his gun was justified.
