Former Civic Party chairwoman Audrey Eu says social activism will continue despite the blow caused by the guilty verdict for nine prominent leaders of the 2014 Occupy movement.
The defendants, including co-founders Benny Tai, Chan Kin-man and the Reverend Chu Yiu-ming, were found guilty of public nuisance charges on Tuesday and will be sentenced on the 24th of this month.
But Eu said people should not give up: "Well I'm sure the government is going to continue to give people reasons to be upset. Now the amendment to the fugitive offenders' ordinance, it's not just the democratic front, it's the international front, the business sector and many journalists and media and so on.
"So I think the social movement will definitely carry on because the government will continue to give us reasons to be upset."
The Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, has said she's not going to restart political reform after the guilty verdict, saying there's no room to stir up more trouble in society.
But Eu said if Hong Kong had a more representative government, it would solve a lot of problems Lam is facing.
