The Observatory says the chance of issuing the Gale or Storm Wind Signal Number 8 on Wednesday morning is not high, unless the tropical depression affecting Hong Kong takes a more northerly track.
The Strong Wing Signal Number 3 is now in force as the storm edges towards the western coast of Guangdong. It will be closest to Hong Kong later today, skirting around 300 kilometres to the southwest.
The Observatory said local winds are expected to strengthen with heavier rain during the day.
As the number 3 signal is in effect, the Education Bureau said classes of kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability will be suspended today.
