  • Observatory issues typhoon signal one

The observatory issued the Standby Signal Number 1 at 4.20am on Wednesday, to replace the Strong Wind Signal Number 3.

At 5am, the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 170km south-southeast of Hong Kong and is forecast to move east slowly at first and then track northeast at about 12km per hour later across the coastal waters of Guangdong.

With the tropical depression departing, the winds over Hong Kong turned to northerlies. The signal number one will remain in force for a period of time.

The rainbands associated with the tropical depression will continue to bring occasional showers and squalls to Hong Kong in the next few days, it said, adding there will also be swells.
