The observatory expects the strong wind signal number 3 to remain in force for a few more hours and the alert to be lowered to standby signal number 1 only in the evening.
The weathermen said though Tropical Storm Wipha continues to depart from the city, strong windy conditions are prevailing in the region.
At 1pm, Wipha was centred at about 400 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong. But strong winds and occasional heavy showers are still affecting the territory.
The seas are also rough with swells.
The observatory said wind gusts reaching up to over 100 kilometres per hour have been recorded in some areas of Hong Kong on Thursday.
It said strong wind signal, Number 3 is in force and warned that gusts reaching 100 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.
