  • New isolation camp near mega bridge opens

Construction is complete for another isolation facility near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which will receive Covid patients with no or mild symptoms from Saturday.

It is one of the facilities Beijing is helping to build amid the current wave of Covid infections in Hong Kong.

The site, which is located on the artificial island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, houses around 400 rooms and provides some 1,200 beds.

Touring the facility, Chief Secretary John Lee said two other isolation camps Beijing helped build, which opened earlier, are already 80 percent full.

He said there might have been some issues when those facilities were first put to use, but management teams have made various improvements.

For example, staff are now providing toys for children, as well as newspapers and other entertainment for patients.

Lee again thanked the central government for helping the SAR fight the epidemic.
