Elizabeth Quat talks to RTHK's Joanne Wong
The DAB is warning that new facilities coming up in Hong Kong are adding to upskirt photography "blackspots" in Hong Kong and authorities are not paying enough attention to this problem despite women complaining about this for years.
The party's lawmaker Elizabeth Quat warned that women visiting the places like the newly commissioned Xiqu Centre for Cantonese opera at the West Kowloon arts hub are at risk of falling victim to 'upskirt' photography.
"The government should [be] aware that there are upskirting photography problems in Hong Kong for quite sometime and we have been asking the government to make changes to some public places," she said.
"Xiqu Centre is a new development. We expected the government to seriously consider different kinds of aspects, especially the protection of women," the pro-government party's lawmaker said.
She said her party has written to the government demanding improvements to the venue in West Kowloon.
The party also included on a new list of 12 spots identified by the DAB.
The party said the list included spots at the new West Kowloon railway station, the Convention Centre and the Harbour City shopping mall.
Some of these places have used glass panels or reflective material that can leave women exposed.
Quat told RTHK's Joanne Wong that her party had even got complaint from some men, saying they are being forced into seeing "undesirable scenery".
