  • MTRC says safety of express rail is top priority

MTRC chairman Frederick Ma

The Chairman of the MTRC Frederick Ma on Saturday said the railway company is under no pressure to meet an intended target to begin passenger services for the express rail link to the mainland in September.

The operator had revealed earlier in the week that there was a minor derailment of the train, named "Vibrant Express" at the Shek Kong depot following a trial run.

All tests have now been suspended pending a thorough investigation.

Professor Ma was asked after attending a radio programme if the railway operator feels absolutely compelled to meet the September deadline, but he shrugged off the question, saying safety was more important.
