  • MTR warns of delays in East Rail Line closure

The MTR Corporation says it will closely monitor traffic conditions on Sunday as it suspends East Rail services between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom stations.

The closure is the first of ten this year to allow for work to connect the East Rail Line with a new cross-harbour rail section.

MTR’s operations chief, Sammy Wong, says free shuttle buses will run between Kowloon Tong and Hung Hom stations during the closure.

However, he said passengers should be prepared for an extra journey time of up to an hour if they plan to take the shuttle buses. He encouraged them to use other rail lines instead.

“For passengers who plan to take our free shuttle buses, their journeys will be split into two or even three trips. To avoid the extra fare that may incur due to that breakage of trips, a special arrangement on fares will be implemented,” he said.

Wong said all passengers who take the West Rail Line and leave from Hung Hom station using Octopus cards will not be charged as part of the special arrangement.

The rail section between Mong Kok East and Hung Hom stations will also be closed on nine other designated Sundays before October because of the planned construction works.
